History

About the ship

Our ship has a rich history. Built in 1964 in Hemiksem, Belgium under the name Flandria 18, it sailed for years as a passenger ship on the famous sightseeing cruises of Antwerp. At just over 35 metres long, it carried around 200 passengers and was a familiar sight on Belgian waters.

In 2018 the ship was given a new life in the Zaan region and was renamed Hembrug ÉÉN. Since then it has sailed past the historic Hembrug site and the North Sea Channel, where past and present come together.

Aboard, the charm of a classic passenger ship with more than sixty years of history is palpable. Where thousands of visitors once discovered Antwerp from the water, the former Flandria 18 now offers a unique view of the remarkable heritage of the Hembrug and the Zaan region.
